SOCIOENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE PROFILE

LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY AND TECHNOLOGICAL EFFICIENCY

The index of socio-environmental performance in the “Landscape Ecology and Technological Efficiency” resulted in a moderate evolution (2.96). This was due to the implementation of integrated pest management, which brought to these production areas an excellent result in biological control, in addition to the reduction of agrochemical use in crops of heart of palm. The “Current Level of Adoption of Good Practices”, for that dimension, was 79%, showing high content of controls of the internal processes and efficiency in the activities developed in crops.

ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

The “Environmental Quality” dimension has resulted in a great evolution (5.03), impacted positively by a significant improvement in the quality of the soil on the farms, in addition to increased preservation and conservation of the native vegetation of the properties and the reduction of exposure of water bodies to agrochemicals. The “Current Level of Adoption of Good Practices” employed was 88%, a result of a high concern in preserving the environment and its natural resources.

ECONOMIC VALUES

In the “Economic Values” dimension the result was a great evolution (9.75), especially for indicators related to the safety in obtaining production, increased production stability and preservation of natural resources, all results of a change in the pest management and work divisions on the farms, implemented since 2009. However, the “Current Level of Adoption of Good Practices” was 47%, which shows that there are still many aspects to be improved on enhencements and investments in properties.

SOCIOCULTURAL VALUES AND COSTUMER RESPECT

In “Socio-Cultural Values and Respect for the Consumer” the index obtained was of moderate evolution (3.52), with notable increase in product quality. This was due to the decrease in the use of agrochemicals, in addition to activity driven training of employees, because of the change in work execution mechanisms, as well as the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) implementation in crops. On the “Current Level of Adoption of Good Practices” the result was 69%, showing that workers receive training and that most of the procedures that bring security for employees are guaranteed.

MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

In the dimension “Management and Administration” the index was of great evolution (5.29), with emphasis on the criteria “Dedication and Profile of Person in Charge”, in addition to the improvement in product storage conditions at the site, altering from iron cages to transportation in plastic drums that are filled with water, ensuring the quality of the product. Another crucial point was the increased use of technical assistance for the implementation of all these changes on the property. The “Current Level of Adoption of Good Practices” implemented for that dimension was 76%.
